Early Life and Background

Pete Carr was raised in Dallas, Texas, by his single mother in modest circumstances that shaped his character and work ethic. From an early age, he learned the importance of perseverance, personal responsibility, and faith. Life presented challenges, including obstacles in completing his formal education, but those experiences instilled in him a determination to build opportunity through discipline and hard work rather than circumstance.


As a young man, Carr was drawn to rodeo and the Western way of life. In his twenties, he competed as a bareback rider, traveling and gaining firsthand experience in professional rodeo competition. His time as a contestant fostered a lasting respect for rodeo athletes, livestock, and the traditions of the sport. Although his competitive career eventually concluded, the lessons he learned in the arena would later influence his standards as a stock contractor.


Professional Career and Rise

To support himself, Carr entered the construction industry, beginning at the most basic level by hauling sheetrock to job sites. He advanced through hands-on experience, mastering the operational and managerial aspects of commercial construction. In 1993, he founded Resource Commercial Construction (also known as Resource Commercial Inc.), building it into a successful national commercial contracting firm. His attention to detail, disciplined management approach, and commitment to quality became hallmarks of his leadership.


In 2005, Carr returned to the sport that had first inspired him by purchasing his Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Stock Contractor Card and founding Pete Carr Pro Rodeo. Applying the same business principles that had guided his construction company, he focused on livestock quality, professionalism, and operational excellence.


Under Carr’s direction, Pete Carr Pro Rodeo developed into one of the most respected stock contracting firms in professional rodeo. The company provides livestock for major rodeos across Texas and the United States, including Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, San Angelo, Weatherford, Pecos, Stephenville, Hempstead, Bay City, Nacogdoches, Jacksonville, Big Spring, and Henderson, among others. Carr livestock have also been featured at the National Finals Rodeo.


His breeding and livestock program has produced multiple award-winning animals. PRCA Bareback Horses of the Year under his program have included Real Deal (2005), Big Tex (2010), Deuces Night (2012), and Dirty Jacket (2014–2015). In 2023, Bayou Bengal was named PRCA Bull of the Year. More than 300 Carr bucking animals have been selected to compete at the National Finals Rodeo over the course of his career.


Legacy and Impact

Pete Carr is widely recognized for raising standards in stock contracting through an emphasis on livestock care, consistency, and event professionalism. His program has earned repeated nominations for PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year and multiple major honors, including two WPRA Stock Contractor of the Year awards (2014, 2021) and recognition as Resistol Man of the Year (2024). In 2025, he earned his second Extreme Bulls Stock Contractor of the Year award.


Beyond competitive accolades, Carr is respected for mentorship within the industry and for promoting safety and animal welfare standards. He has served on the board of Resistol’s Cowboys Who Care Foundation and has supported charitable efforts benefiting injured cowboys and children in need.


Faith and family remain central to Carr’s life and leadership philosophy. His wife, Holly, has been a consistent source of support throughout his career. Colleagues and competitors alike recognize Carr for his steady leadership style, fairness, and long-term commitment to the sport of rodeo.


Later Years and Continuing Work

As of his 2026 induction into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Carr remains active in both commercial construction and professional rodeo. He continues to oversee Pete Carr Pro Rodeo operations while maintaining involvement in livestock development, event production, and industry leadership. His work reflects an enduring commitment to excellence and to preserving the traditions of professional rodeo for future generations.
