Growing up a fifth generation working cowboy, McBride was influenced by the cowboy life and its music. He remembers going to youth rodeos in his family’s old pickup, listening to western style country music on cassette tapes. Upon his retirement from bull riding, McBride focused his attention on music the same as he once had on rodeo, performing across the country and recording several albums.
Later Justin joined rodeo commentators on the Built Ford Tough Series telecasts on CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network. He also worked as the co-host of PBR Now. He was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2016.
