Cody Johnson was born May 21, 1987, in Sebastopol, Texas, and was raised in a family rooted in the cowboy way of life. His father rodeoed, and Johnson grew up around livestock, ranch work, and rodeo competition. As a teenager, he competed in amateur bull riding, gaining firsthand experience in the arena before shifting his focus to music.

Professional Career and Rise

His first major-label release, Ain’t Nothin’ to It (2019), debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and reached the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. The album included the Platinum-certified Top 10 single “On My Way To You.” He later re-recorded “Dear Rodeo” as a duet with Reba McEntire, a song that directly reflects his transition from bull riding to music. The track inspired the documentary Dear Rodeo: The Cody Johnson Story, which chronicled his journey from Texas rodeo arenas to major concert stages.


In 2021, Johnson released Human: The Double Album, an 18-track project reflecting his traditional country influences and personal themes of faith, responsibility, and perseverance. The single “‘Til You Can’t” became one of the most successful songs of his career, earning widespread acclaim and industry recognition.


Throughout his career, Johnson has accumulated multiple certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), including Gold and Platinum awards.
